Routine Communication:

MHCA strives to provide members with accurate, timely information in cost-effective ways.  With this year's launch of the MHCA E-News, we have drastically reduced mailing and postage costs, while increasing the frequency with which we communicate to our membership.  Maximizing the benefits of electronic technology, MHCA staff remains committed to a weekly publication schedule and encourages member ideas and suggestions for improvement.

At the recommendation of MHCA's President/CEO, the Association introduced another new membership communication this year.  After the bi-monthly Board of Directors' meetings, members receive a Memo from the President and CEO, which captures the highlights of each Board meeting.  This effort demonstrates MHCA's commitment to an inclusive membership organization and we hope it is a useful update on association activities and policy development.

MHCA members who are also members of our national affiliates, the American Health Care Association (AHCA) and the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL), routinely receive the AHCA Update and NCAL Connections.  These publications keep members connected to the national political and regulatory environment. Members may elect to receive these by electronic mail or paper copy.

Industry Primers:

MHCA enjoys a positive member response to our white paper on long term care entitled, An Opportunity to Respect Our Elders.  This educational publication continues to be the cornerstone of our advocacy and public education efforts.  Member demand for it has been great as many facilities use it to educate staff, residents and families. This year marked the second publication of the piece that was updated to reflect current trends, information and policy initiatives of the association.

MHCA is in the process of finalizing a companion piece to this year's white paper for distribution and use during the Fall election season. The new brochure, Long Term Care in Crisis, will be a four-page adaptation of the white paper with an added emphasis on the impact of recent long term care facility closings and a call to action for policy makers. The new piece will also include graphs and charts to support the text.

Specialty Publications:

In its 21st year of publication, MHCA's annual Long Term Care Wage and Fringe Benefit Report continues to be one of the association's most popular resources.  As a membership benefit, the report represents the provider community's cooperative efforts to share information on which to base a reasonable and fair system of salary and fringe benefit administration. It is also a useful benchmarking tool that allows members to compare themselves against facilities similar in size and region.

Directory/Buyers’ Guide:

At the request of our membership, MHCA revived and revamped its annual Directory/Buyers' Guide, which now serves as both our Fall Conference journal and our facility directory/membership guide.  The Directory includes a complete list of all Maine long term care facilities by county with MHCA members differentiated in bold; a list of MHCA organizational members indexed by type of business; a list of conference exhibitors; an advertising/buyer's guide showcasing vendors of long term care services and products; and a directory of important governmental and regulatory agencies. This all-in-one publication is a useful resource and thanks to generous advertising support, we are able to provide MHCA members and potential consumers with complimentary copies.

Annual Report:

This year’s report reflects the Association’s growth and change over time, as well as our renewed commitment to providing you this information on an annual basis.  In addition, we intend to use the report as a marketing tool to support our membership recruitment efforts in the coming year.
