State budget proposal released

On Friday last week, Governor Janet Mills released her first Biennial Budget proposal.  It is always a challenge to immediately discern what the effect of the Budget will be on long term care funding.  This is true for nursing facilities, but even more so for PNMIs, as their funding is grouped with other payments to providers.  As details emerge, we will have a better idea of the true impact in both settings.

For now, it appears that the proposal for the next two years restores funding that was originally thought to be part of LD 925.  We can see that the budget proposal does include amounts earmarked for upcoming cost of living adjustments and rebasing in the Biennium.  MHCA and its consultants will review more detailed numbers when available and prepare comments for budget hearings that are yet to be scheduled with the Health & Human Services Committee and Appropriations Committee.
