Title: Communication: An Essential Skillset for Caregivers (WB2002)
Date: February 25, 2020
Time: 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM
Program Description: Effective communication is a critical aspect of caring for residents and is linked to higher quality of life and a decrease in both verbal/physical aggression and depression in nursing home residents. As of October 2019, new requirements were implemented mandating training for direct care staff on effective communication. Direct care staff need to understand their responsibilities for reporting a change in residents’ condition and sharing information with team members to ensure continuity in care based on individualized interventions. This seminar will address strategies for effective communication within the facility, across shifts and among care teams. You will learn about effective communication as it relates to teamwork, discuss ways improved communication optimizes resident safety, list barriers, and share tools and strategies for overcoming communication challenges.
