Beyond “You’re Fired”: Managing Lawful Terminations with Grace
Not all employee terminations are the same. This program is designed to empower managers and HR professionals who must navigate important legal considerations with the need to handle the most difficult interactions with professionalism and grace. This training will summarize the legal framework associated with the termination process, highlight the importance of clear, credible communication, and demonstrate how advance planning can be used to keep your business on the right track. Our presenter will review real-world factual scenarios intended to advance your knowledge of the strategies for avoiding both the common and uncommon pitfalls that can befall termination decision-makers.
Presenter:
Matthew J. LaMourie is an attorney in Preti Flaherty’s Labor & Employment, Litigation, and Immigration Practice Groups. His practice is equally divided between management-side labor and employment litigation and compliance counseling, where he represents a full range of clients in matters encompassing workplace discrimination, harassment and retaliation claims, wage and hour compliance, and OSHA compliance. Matthew also is fully engaged in the field of labor relations, maximizing his clients’ management-union relationships, defending management decision-making in the context of workplace grievances and arbitrations, and assisting clients in collective bargaining negotiations.
Matthew has over 25 years’ experience representing clients in numerous industries, including the retail, health care, financial, energy, manufacturing, and telecommunications sectors. His clients include not only employers located in Maine, but throughout northern New England and Atlantic Canada.
Matthew is licensed to practice in Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. He holds a certificate in collective bargaining studies from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations. He received his J.D. degree from Northeastern University School of Law, where he served as a judicial intern for U.S. District Judge D. Brock Hornby.
