Payroll Based Journal (PBJ) Reporting & Impact on CMS Quality Outcomes
In compliance with Section 6106 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) created a system for skilled nursing facilities to compile and routinely submit staffing data via PBJ reports. This system allows staffing information to be collected on a regular, more frequent basis than previously collected. It also continues to increase in significance and can impact a facility’s compliance with newly proposed federal mandates, as well as Five Star Rating on Care Compare.
Learning Objectives:
- Review reporting requirements, allowable job codes/titles, best practices for data collection and submission methods.
- Describe how PBJ data inputs (not sure what “inputs” are) are used and how changes in staffing can impact your Five Star rating.
- Understand the CMS PBJ audit process and how to best prepare utilizing internal data sources and audit systems.
- Understand the connection acuity has to your staffing data, including how PDPM components from MDS coding are now being used to calculate hours per resident day (HRD) in your CMS Five Star staffing calculation.
