This Board-Approved Preceptor Training was created for licensed Nursing Home Administrators (NHA) or Multi-Level Facility Administrators (MLFA) who would like to be certified in Maine to serve as a Preceptor for an Administrator-In-Training (AIT). Among other things, this course includes a review of current Long-Term Care State regulations. Here's the link to the Event Flyer.
To serve as a Preceptor
In addition to taking this course, you must (1) hold a license, in good standing, by the Board to practice as a NHA or MLFA, having held such a license, in good standing, for at least three years immediately preceding the commencement of the AIT Training Program, and throughout the duration, AND (2) have had at least five years of full-time employment as a NHA or MLFA in Maine and/or some other state, all pursuant to the appropriate license in good standing. See NHA Licensing Board Rules for details.
The updated version of this State-Approved program includes some newly required prerequisites. Unless your certification is current (and you are taking this course to maintain your certification), to participate in this Preceptor Training, you must:
- Complete the online NAB/ACHCA AIT Preceptor Training Modules (and corresponding post-tests) ahead of time, and
- Submit a copy of your NAB Certificate to MHCA on or before the date of the program.
Fortunately, these online training modules are free, and the corresponding AIT Program Manual is also a free resource for both you and your AIT. There are four modules included in the NAB/ACHCA online course. Preceptors who are currently certified (and need to take this course to maintain their certification), are exempt from this requirement.
