Nursing Home Administrator Preceptor Training Program
This Board-Approved Preceptor Training was created for licensed Nursing Home Administrators (NHA) or Multi-Level Facility Administrators (MLFA) who would like to be certified in Maine to serve as a Preceptor for an Administrator-In-Training (AIT). Among other things, this course includes a review of current Long-Term Care State regulations.
To serve as a Preceptor
In addition to taking this course, you must (1) hold a license, in good standing, by the Board to practice as a NHA or MLFA, having held such a license, in good standing, for at least five years immediately preceding the commencement of the AIT Training Program, and throughout the duration, AND (2) have had at least three years of full-time employment in a supervisory capacity or an executive with oversight responsibility in the field of long-term care in Maine, all pursuant to the appropriate license in good standing. See NHA Licensing Board Rules.
Prerequisites
There are prerequisites for participating in this State-Approved program. If your certification has expired, or you are seeking to become a NHA Preceptor for the first time, you must complete the following requirements in advance:
1. Complete the online NAB/ACHCA AIT Preceptor Training Modules and pass the corresponding post-tests (there is a $15 charge for this course), and
2. Submit a copy of your NAB Certificate to MHCA on or before the date of the program. NAB recently overhauled the AIT Program Manual to correspond to the content in all four modules; you may click here for the link to this resource. Preceptors who are currently certified (and taking this course to renew their certification), are exempt from this requirement.
