Social Service Ethics in Rural Health Care Settings
This training will provide a safe forum to discuss common ethical dilemmas encountered in many rural community health care settings. We will discuss boundaries, confidentiality, personal and professional relationships and consultation, as well as other pertinent topics. We will also briefly begin to explore the use of an ethical decision-making model as a future tool. This two-day training will include multi-media such as videos, discussion, small groups, and PowerPoint.
Part One – June 6th: This session will cover the NASW Code of Ethics and review rural concerns as they relate to the Code. In addition, we will review updates to the Code of Ethics from 2020 on and discuss and review boundaries, confidentiality, and technology specific to health care.
Part Two – June 7th: This session will take a deeper look at ethical dilemmas in the health care setting though small group work. We will explore ethical decisions making models and how to develop a consultation/supervision model to support your work moving forward.
Presenter:
Wanda Anderson, LCSW, MSW, is the Assistant Director for Online MSWO Programs at UNE. She has been a faculty member at UNE for 20 years. Wanda graduated from the University of Maine, Orono in 1984 and the University of Hawaii, Manoa in 1990. Wanda’s experience includes administration, clinical work, case-management, and professional trainings. She has taught at both the BSW and MSW level and, in 2007, worked with UNE faculty to create one of the first fully online MSW programs in the country. Wanda has a passion for delivering client-centered services for children, parents/adults, and elders. Prior to moving back to northern Maine, Wanda lived in Georgia, South Carolina, Nevada, Hawaii, Augusta, and Portland. For the past 10+ years, she has presented extensively on Social Work Ethics in Maine. She is a photographer, an amateur baker, and a disabled veteran.

A few days prior to the event, registrants will be asked to create a Zoom link. To earn a certificate, you must use your assigned link to join the webinar. In lieu of sign-in sheets, we will rely on ZOOM reports (indicating your join and end time) to confirm attendance. After the webinar adjourns, and attendance is verified, certificates will be issued to all eligible participants.
