This Board-Approved Preceptor Training was created for licensed Nursing Home Administrators (NHA) or Multi-Level Facility Administrators (MLFA) who would like to be certified in Maine to serve as a Preceptor for an Administrator-In-Training (AIT).  Among other things, this course includes a review of current Long-Term Care State regulations. For information about who can serve as a Preceptor for an AIT, please refer to the NHA Licensing Board Rules.
There are prerequisites for participating in this State-Approved program. If your certification has expired, or you are seeking to become a NHA Preceptor for the first time, you must complete the following requirements in advance:

  1. Complete the online NAB/ACHCA AIT Preceptor Training Modules (and pass the corresponding post-tests), and
  2. Submit a copy of your NAB Certificates to MHCA on or before the date of the program.

These online training modules, and the corresponding AIT Program Manual, are free resource for both you and your AIT. There are four modules included in the NAB/ACHCA training. Preceptors who are currently certified (taking this course to renew their certification), are exempt from this requirement.
Eric Pooler, MLA, currently serves as Administrator for Hawthorne House & Free Port Place in Freeport, Eric has over 24 years of experience working in nursing, assisted living, gero-psych and ICF/DD facilities.
