Title:  Collaborative Problem Solving: Becoming an Adaptive Dementia Care Team
Date:  July 28, 2020
Time:  1:00 PM to 2:30 PM

Program Description:
Wise caregivers realize that knowledge alone is inadequate to resolve the challenges that arise in memory care centers. In the face of the growing intensity and complexity of resident care needs, does your team know what to do when real-world challenges defy "by the book" solutions? Award-winning occupational therapist and dementia care specialist, Heather McKay, offers a new approach to on-the-job dementia education, which focuses on the team's collaborative process of problem-solving without ignoring the need for new knowledge and skills. Heather will share current research including case examples of teams gathering knowledge, sharing it with each other, and using it to resolve their most challenging cases. Participants will learn simple strategies for re-designing education to yield positive outcomes for memory care residents and enhanced team development.
