Nursing Home Administrator Preceptor Training Program
This Board-Approved Preceptor Training was created for licensed Nursing Home Administrators (NHA) or Multi-Level Facility Administrators (MLFA) who would like to be certified in Maine to serve as a Preceptor for an Administrator-In-Training (AIT). Among other things, this course includes a review of current Long-Term Care State regulations.
Target Audience:
To serve as a Preceptor, in addition to taking this course, you must (1) hold a license, in good standing, by the Board to practice as a NHA or MLFA, having held such a license, in good standing, for at least three years immediately preceding the commencement of the AIT Training Program, and throughout the duration, AND (2) have had at least five years of full-time employment as a NHA/MLFA in Maine and/or some other state, all pursuant to the appropriate license in good standing. See NHA Licensing Board Rules.
Prerequisites:
There are prerequisites for participating in this State-Approved program. If your certification has expired, or you are seeking to become a NHA Preceptor for the first time, you must complete the following requirements in advance:
- Complete the online NAB AIT Preceptor Module Course (and corresponding post-tests) ahead of time, and
- Submit a copy of your NAB Certificate to MHCA on or before the date of the program.
There is a $15 charge for the NAB AIT Preceptor Module Course. In addition, NAB recently overhauled the AIT Program Manual so that it corresponds to the four modules; you may

Preceptors who are currently certified (and taking this course to renew their certification), are exempt from this requirement.
