June 15, 2023 Legislative Update

The legislative session is scheduled to adjourn by June 23, and the main item that must be completed before adjournment is the biennial budget – LD 258. Negotiations are occurring mostly behind the scenes, and as always, MHCA is working with government officials to ensure sustainable access to long term care in Maine.
 
As budget negotiations continue, the two chambers are also voting on other bills that previously passed through the committee process. We are lobbying and monitoring several bills related to our industry and workforce development, including LD 451 An Act to Ensure Transparent and Accountable Temporary Nurse Agencies, LD 1718 An Act to Encourage Participation in Maine's Essential Support Workforce Through Access to Higher Education, and LD 1474 Resolve, Directing the Department of Health and Human Services to Expedite Reimbursement of Nursing Facilities.
