Member Action Alert: Oppose LD 2214

The governor has publicized her supplemental budget proposal. In light of a record number of long term care facility closures and conversions, it needs to include more funding to sustain providing care to our friends, loved ones, and family members. We ask MHCA members to submit statements opposing this proposal and ask for meaningful investment.

The bill related to this proposed budget is LD 2214, An Act to Make Supplemental Appropriations and Allocations for the Expenditures of State Government, General Fund and Other Funds and to Change Certain Provisions of the Law Necessary to the Proper Operations of State Government for the Fiscal Years Ending June 30, 2024 and June 30, 2025. The Appropriations and Health and Human Services Committee will hold a joint hearing this Monday, February 26.

We have prepared three templates for testimony on this bill. One is for financial-focused employees, one is for healthcare-focused employees, and one is for family members. We ask members to download the hyperlinked testimony template, update the text to make it personal, and email the final version to MHCA Director of Public Affairs Ben Hawkins by Monday, February 26 at 8 am. Your testimony will be printed and shared at the hearing during MHCA's testimony on Monday.

Additionally, members are welcome to testify at the hearing. It can be done in person or on Zoom. Please email Ben Hawkins if you'd like to deliver your testimony.
