Maine CDC has issued a Health Alert Network regarding Lyme and other Tickborne Disease Information.

Ticks are already active this year. As the weather continues to get warmer into the spring and summer months, the Maine CDC expects the number of Lyme and other tickborne disease case reports to increase. The purpose of this advisory is to provide healthcare providers with useful information on how to assess and care for patients with possible tickborne disease infections.

In 2023, the Maine CDC identified 2,943 Lyme disease cases (a new annual record), 777 anaplasmosis cases, 194 babesiosis cases, 14 Hard Tick Relapsing Fever (HTRF) cases, 3 ehrlichiosis cases, and 7 Powassan cases (data as of March 13, 2024). Cases of Lyme disease, HTRF, and Powassan all set new annual records in 2023.
