Protect Yourself from Phishing Scams: Stay Vigilant

As our digital world continues to grow, so do the risks of online scams, particularly phishing attempts. Phishing scams are fraudulent emails, messages, or websites that mimic legitimate sources to steal your sensitive information, such as passwords, credit card numbers, or personal identification details. Recently, some members have received phishing and false sales emails ostensibly from MHCA or MHCA employees.

Here are a few key tips to help you stay safe:
  1. Check the Sender's Email Address: Phishers often use email addresses that look similar to a legitimate one. Always double-check the sender's email before clicking any links or downloading attachments.
  2. Be Wary of Unsolicited Requests: If you receive an unexpected message asking for sensitive information or urging immediate action, think twice. Legitimate organizations will never ask you to share personal details via email.
  3. Look for Red Flags: Be cautious of emails with poor grammar, generic greetings (like "Dear Customer"), or urgent language. These are common signs of phishing attempts.
  4. Verify Before You Click: Hover over links to see where they really lead before clicking. If something seems off, don't click it. When in doubt, visit the website directly by typing the URL into your browser.
  5. Contact the Person Emailing You: Call, text, or send a separate email to the alleged person who is reaching out.
It's better to be overly cautious than to fall victim to a scam.
