Environmental Services and C-Diff; Sign up to participate now!

The Maine CDC Healthcare Epidemiology Program in partnership with the U.S. CDC are offering a Targeted Assessment for Prevention (TAP) to both hospitals and nursing homes in Maine specifically geared to evaluate the knowledge and practices of the Environmental Services (EVS) staff when dealing with Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) bacteria.

While the TAP is geared specifically toward C. diff the information gathered can help you assess your EVS staffs understanding of important IPC practices (e.g., hand hygiene training and assessment, PPE use, high touch area cleaning and disinfection) which influences the control of other Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs).

To participate in this project, please do the following:

  1. Email the U.S. CDC at haiprevention@cdc.gov and ask to be enrolled. You can request a copy of the survey be sent to you ahead of time if you need to get approval before starting.
  2. Our U.S. CDC partners will send you the survey for distribution to all of your EVS staff. Some facilities have chosen to include staff that moonlight as EVS frequently to garner a better representation of knowledge. The survey is available electronically via Survey Monkey and printable format and in both English and Spanish.
  3. Each EVS staff member will complete the survey, and all finalized surveys will be collected by the U.S. CDC.
  4. The U.S. CDC will compile all the responses from your EVS staff and send you a report showing areas your facility excels at and opportunities for improvement. This report will be sent to the facility only!
  5. When this project is completed, the U.S. CDC will compile and deidentify all the results and send the Maine Healthcare Epidemiology Program an aggregated report detailing the state's areas of excellence and opportunities for improvement.
  6. The Healthcare Epidemiology Program will then schedule a meeting with everyone to discuss the state's results.

We really hope that everyone can take advantage of this opportunity. If you have any questions about the process please do not hesitate to email either Carrie (carrie.rice@maine.gov) or Allison (allison.burden@maine.gov).
