CMS Mandatory Off-Cycle Revalidation

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced that it will revalidate enrolled skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) from October to December 2024 to collect updated information on ownership, managerial roles (such as medical directors), and related party data. To facilitate this process, CMS has revised the Medicare Provider Enrollment Application Form (CMS-855A) and released sub-regulatory guidance outlining the new reporting requirements.
The updated CMS Form 855A now includes a specific attachment for SNFs, which introduces several additions related to individuals' relationships with the facility. This includes whether a person serves as the medical director and details about their involvement in policy-making, clinical consulting, administrative, or management services. CMS' sub-regulatory guidance provides comprehensive instructions on how facilities can properly comply with these new reporting obligations.
