What is CoreQ

CoreQ is a set of standardized satisfaction surveys used by skilled nursing care centers (SNCCs) and residential care communities to assess the experiences of residents.  Developed collaboratively by the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL), researcher Nicholas Castle, Ph.D., providers, residents, and customer satisfaction vendors, CoreQ includes five validated and reliable measures designed to capture consistent feedback across long-term and post-acute care settings. These surveys focus on core aspects of satisfaction—such as overall quality of care, staff communication, and willingness to recommend the facility—and are simple to administer, making them a practical tool for routine quality assessment. CoreQ has been independently tested and is endorsed by the Partnership for Quality Measurement.

The CoreQ standardized metrics allow facilities to benchmark their performance over time and against peers, helping identify areas of strength and those needing attention. Increasingly, CoreQ results are being integrated into public reporting platforms and value-based purchasing programs, enabling consumers to make more informed choices while encouraging providers to prioritize resident-centered care. By providing actionable insights into resident and family experiences, CoreQ supports a culture of continuous improvement in nursing homes and assisted living communities.
AHCA NCAL offers many resources to learn more about CoreQ.

Currently Maine is reviewing the use of CoreQ as part of the VBP program.    At this time, final decisions have not been made.   If you have vendors reaching out to you at this time, we recommend you WAIT until all decisions are made.  If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out to MHCA.
