Legislative Update: Key Work Sessions Ahead for Long Term Care Bills

The Health and Human Services Committee is entering a busy stretch, with many key bills scheduled for work sessions over the next week. Two of the most important for Maine's long term care sector are:
  • LD 979 – This bill addresses changes to assisted housing regulations and will be taken up tomorrow. We understand that several amendments may be considered, and we will share details with members once they are finalized following the work session.
  • LD 1720 – Our priority workforce bill will be worked on next Wednesday. This bill supports efforts to strengthen the long term care workforce by expanding training opportunities and improving access to language support for CNA candidates and staff.
MHCA will be present at both of these work sessions to help answer any questions lawmakers may have related to the long term care perspective.

Please note: work sessions are not public hearings. Members of the public may only speak if a legislator on the committee specifically requests input. That said, these sessions are important as they determine what version of the bill will move forward.
We'll continue monitoring both bills closely and will provide updates as soon as they are available.
