MHCA & MHCABS Nominating Committee Seeks Candidates - August 27th Deadline

The Nominating Committee is seeking candidates for several open seats on the MHCA Board of Directors. The Board of Directors meets four to six times per year, usually in Augusta, with a virtual option available. New Board member orientation is held annually in the fall.

The MHCA Bylaws committee has proposed changing the bylaws to “no more than two (2) Directors from any one Full Member shall be eligible to serve on the Board" and "no more than two (2) Directors from any one Multi-Facility shall be eligible to serve on the Board." The MHCA Board of Directors has endorsed these changes, and the membership will vote on these proposed changes and several other bylaws amendments at the MHCA Annual Membership Meeting schedule for October 2 at 4:00 pm via Zoom. Meeting details to follow.

For the purposes of this Call for Nominations, full members/multi-facilities are eligible to submit nominations (up to two nominations) premised on the assumption that the proposed bylaws changes are adopted by the membership at the upcoming annual membership meeting. Any member that submits up to two nominations, or has a current seated board member and chooses to nominate an additional candidate, should prioritize one for the Nominating Committee's consideration if the bylaws are not adopted at the annual meeting. For multi-facility entities that submit an additional nomination(s), multi-facility entities are defined as “a system of entities characterized by (i) common ownership, and (ii) common management of more than one facility or agency.”

If you are interested in serving on the MHCA Board, or would like to nominate someone, please complete the online nomination form by Wednesday, August 27th. The nomination form highlights the candidates' affiliation with MHCA member organizations, type of services provided, region of the state where services are located, and other skills and experiences of the candidate seeking a position on the Board of Directors. All completed nominations will be reviewed and each candidate will be contacted by MHCA Board or staff. Your responses will help ensure our Board reflects Maine's diverse long term care providers and communities.

Additionally, there is an opportunity to serve on the MHCA Business Service Board of Directors. MHCA Business Services is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Maine Health Care Association. It was established to provide members of the Association with group purchasing opportunities and other benefits. As a separate entity, it operates with its own Board of Directors, which is elected in conjunction with the MHCA annual meeting.

The Nominating Committee will present a slate of candidates for election by the membership at the Annual Meeting. Additional details to follow.
