Maine CDC Issues Standing Orders for COVID-19 Vaccine

The Maine CDC today released a Health Advisory Network (HAN) notice outlining vaccination recommendations for Maine residents. Vaccination remains a critical tool to prevent severe illness, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19. Maine CDC strongly recommends that everyone age 6 months and older receive the vaccine. Residents in long-term care and other congregate settings are especially vulnerable and should be prioritized for vaccination.

To support vaccine access, Maine CDC has issued standing orders for the administration of the 2025–2026 COVID-19 vaccine. These orders authorize qualified health professionals—including pharmacists—to administer the vaccine without a separate provider's prescription.
