CMS Revises Date for Updated Antipsychotic Measure

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has revised QSO-25-20-NH to update the implementation date for the revised long-stay antipsychotic quality measure on Nursing Home Care Compare. The updated measure will now be incorporated on January 28, 2026 (previously scheduled for October 29, 2025).

Currently, the national percentage of residents receiving an antipsychotic is reported as 14.64% under the existing measure. With the new methodology, this percentage will increase to 16.98%, as the updated measure will capture additional data.
To improve accuracy, CMS will expand the measure to include Medicare and Medicaid claims and encounter data, in addition to the Minimum Data Set (MDS) data currently used. This change is intended to provide a more complete picture of antipsychotic use in nursing homes.
