Federal Legislation Aimed at Healthcare Workforce

Working in collaboration with the Essential Worker Immigration Coalition (EWIC), last month Representative Lloyd Smucker (R-PA) introduced H.R. 5494, the Essential Workers for Economic Advancement Act. The bipartisan bill, focusing on addressing workforce shortages in healthcare (and other year-round sectors) aims to create a new type of visa. Differing from the existing H-2 visas (either the H-2A or the H-2B), the H-2C visa established in this bill allows the hiring of workers into year-round work and is to be used to fill positions that have a demonstrated workforce shortage.
