CMS Clarifies Impact of Combined MDS Assessments on SNF QRP Compliance
CMS has released
a new resource explaining how
combined MDS assessments affect compliance with the Skilled Nursing Facility Quality Reporting Program (SNF QRP) and the Annual Payment Update (APU). When a facility combines a
5-Day PPS assessment and a PPS Discharge assessment into a single MDS submission, CMS will still count the record as
two separate assessments for purposes of meeting the SNF QRP data submission threshold. This clarification is important because facilities that fail to meet reporting requirements may face a
reduction in their Medicare payment update. Facilities should ensure their MDS submission practices align with this guidance to maintain compliance and avoid payment penalties.
