CDC Issues Interim Guidance for the 2026-2027 Flu Season

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released interim clinical considerations for seasonal influenza vaccination in the United States, confirming that the recommendations issued in the July 2025 immunization schedule remain in effect for the 2026–2027 flu season.

Routine annual flu vaccination continues to be recommended for all eligible individuals. Most people should aim to be vaccinated in September or October, though vaccination should continue throughout the season as long as influenza viruses are circulating. Adults 65 and older should preferentially receive a high-dose, recombinant, or adjuvanted vaccine when one is available, and people with an egg allergy may safely receive any age-appropriate flu vaccine. Vaccination remains especially important for those at higher risk of serious flu complications, as well as the people who live with or care for them — including healthcare personnel.

Members and healthcare professionals are encouraged to review the CDC's complete interim clinical considerations to prepare for the upcoming flu season. Questions may be sent to regulatory@mhca.org
