Important update on COVID financial relief grants

Last week Maine nursing homes and assisted living facilities received applications for a share of $12.5 million in COVID-19 relief funds, administered through the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Economic and Community Development.  The goal of the program is to assist providers that have been “substantially and directly impacted by the pandemic.” 

Unfortunately, many facilities have expressed concern about their ability to meet the eligibility requirements for the program.  MHCA raised this issue with DHHS during a productive meeting held on Wednesday.  Based on these discussions, we strongly encourage our members to complete the application form and submit it, even if it does not appear that they will qualify for funding.  State officials have agreed to reevaluate the process they are using and we expect to hear more on how facilities may still meet the criteria for funding.  Watch for updates on this program soon.
