CMS issue reminder on COVID-19 staff vaccinations

This week the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure issued a letter to health care facility administrators on the importance of COVID-19 staff vaccinations and the current CMS requirements. MHCA strongly encourages members to review the federal vaccine rule guidance released on December 28, 2021; January 14, 2022; and January 20, 2022 for additional information.

Since Maine has it's own state based vaccination requirement that is more stringent than that of the federal mandate if facilities are compliant with the state based mandate you WILL be compliant with the federal mandate. In addition, a few key points of clarification:
  1. The Maine based mandate extends beyond federally licensed homes and includes assisted housing providers. 
  2. Maine does NOT recognize religious or philosophical declination.
