In Case You Missed It - CDC Refresher Training: Up-to-Date Vaccination Status

In case you missed this week's CDC update on the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) vaccination reporting standards, below is a summary.

The CDC first recommended updated (bivalent) boosters in early September 2022. The bivalent boosters are updated Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech boosters that target the most recent Omicron subvariants. Beginning September 26, most individuals should only be counted as up to date if they received an updated (bivalent) booster dose.

Residents eligible for the updated (bivalent) booster but have not yet received it are no longer considered up to date with COVID-19 vaccines and should not be counted in Question 5 of the submission form.

If a facility inaccurately reported the number of residents who are up to date on their COVID-19 vaccination, the facility should adjust their recent weekly count for question 5. The National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) always encourages retrospective submissions and updates.
