MaineCare Announces Plans to Release Payments Pended During Temporary MaineCare Payment Holds

Earlier this week, DHHS/ Office of Maine Care Services posted an announcement that it is planning to release provider payments that were held as a result of insufficient funding. In anticipation of receiving supplemental funding for Fiscal Year 2025, provided in P.L 2025 Ch. 2 on June 20, 2025, DHHS is planning to release held provider payments and reinstate normal provider payment operations starting next week.

Back in March, DHHS decided to temporarily hold certain MaineCare provider payments beginning with the payment cycle that ran on March 12, 2025. Payment withholding has continued since then.

Critical Access Hospitals will have their prospective interim payments (PIPs) restored, normal operations will be restored for high dollar claims, and pended claims for multi-state chain, large health system and out-of-state retail pharmacies and durable medical equipment services held claims will release. Claims will move from “pend” to “waitpay” or “pay” status.
