If you're following along with the legislative calendar then you know we're about halfway through the 2nd session. The midpoint is an important milestone as it typically correlates with budget talks, and this year is no exception.
Supplemental budget hearings have begun, and Maine Health Care Association was front and center this week as budgetary considerations for MaineCare lines were introduced. Testifying this week, Angela Westhoff argued to the Joint Standing Committee on Appropriations and Financial Affairs that the Supplemental budget must include COLA for Maine's long term care direct service employees.
Elsewhere this week, the Maine Health Care Association stood before the Committee on Health Coverage, Insurance, Financial Services, providing much needed rebuttal to language in LD 2190, that too broadly defined terms and potentially limits capital investment opportunities to nursing facilities.
The legislative team of MHCA continues to meet with legislators, lobbyists, stakeholders and representatives of the Department to advance our agenda advocating for our members.
