Legislative Update

Movement is underway in Maine's legislature as the proposed budget makes its way to completion.
In the late-night hours of Wednesday, April 8 and the early morning hours of Thursday, April 9 lawmakers in Augusta argued the merits of the budget, ultimately passing it, mostly along party lines.
Later today the full Senate is expected to take its final enactment vote, effectively finishing the work of passing a budget.

MHCA's government affairs team worked hard this session to ensure a 3.07% COLA for direct care workers remained in the budget throughout the weeks of hearings, debates, and negotiations.
Thank you to everyone who reached out to lawmakers in the last few days.
Your final push kept direct care workers in the minds of legislators during the final debates last night and early this morning.
