The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) recently announced an apprenticeship grant funding opportunity, Apprenticeship Building America Grant Program. DOL is offering apprenticeship grant funding totaling $113 million to pay for worker apprenticeship programs, in an effort to bolster its registered apprenticeship program. According to the DOL press release on the funding, Apprenticeship Building America program grant recipients will work with various partners to support and develop the Registered Apprenticeship ecosystem. These partnerships will include:
  • State apprenticeship system building and modernization.
  • Expansion of Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) opportunities for youth.
  • Ensuring equitable RAP pathways through pre-apprenticeship leading to RAP enrollment and equity partnerships.
  • Registered Apprenticeship hubs.
Eligible applicants include nonprofits, labor organizations, public and state institutions of higher education, and county governments. Finalists will receive awards from $1-$8 million. The closing date for applications is April 25, 2022. More details on this funding and on apprenticeships in health care are available.
